Château Mouton-Rothschild is one of the three first-rate wineries located in the municipality of Pauillac. It produces one of the most prestigious wines of Bordeaux, which bears the same name. It shares this rare distinction with Château Margaux, Château Latour, Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Haut-Brion. The Mouton Rothschild vineyard covers 84 hectares of vines.
The property was purchased at auction in 1853 by Nathaniel de Rothschild. The architect of the estate's fortune, however, was Philippe de Rothschild, who began bottling all of the Château's wine and commissioning world-renowned artists to illustrate the label, which changed every vintage.
Today, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild's 3 sons preside over the destiny of this famous Château.
