Cantine Ghidossi
In the enchanting setting of Ticino, it all begins with Gianfranco Ghidossi, an electrical engineer with a passion for vineyards and wine, a passion passed on to him by his father Silvio, who cultivated a small vineyard in front of the house. His father's early hobbyist productions, which vinified a few hundred kilos of Merlot grapes, led Gianfranco to improve that wine of which his father was so proud. So in 1991 he decided to contact his good friend and great architect Aurelio Galfetti, who took up Gianfranco's challenge and designed a modern, richly detailed winery on a hilly plot in Cadenazzo, on the slopes of Monte Ceneri.
In 1992, the first Ghidossi winery was built, allowing Gianfranco to produce his wines in a real winery. His passion, tenacity and thoroughness led him to develop and improve his wines to the best of his ability, soon leading him to win his first gold medals in international competitions with the wine that bears his nickname, "Lightning".
Soon Gianfranco's passion also became that of his son Davide, who from a young age helped his dad between the vineyard and the winery. Davide thus decided to take the wine route, and to study Enology and Viticulture at the Higher School in Oenology and Viticulture in Changins. After graduating and gaining work experience in Valais, Vaud, Geneva and Australia, he took over his father's winery. Davide Ghidossi's oenological career is a succession of successes, leading him to receive countless national and international awards, for his business in general and for his wines.
In the 2000s, increasing production no longer allowed all the grapes to be vinified in the now small winery in Cadenazzo, and with the purchase of new land in Malcantone, a new winery was built in Croglio, with the help of architect Franco Moro. The new structure stands on a gentle slope bordering the Tresa River. The winery, surrounded by Merlot vineyards, is a blend of modernity and fusion of nature, stone and wood, materials that evoke the origins of Ticino itself.
The scrupulousness, attention and love towards the care of the vineyard and the production always aimed at quality, with very low production yields, allow Davide Ghidossi's winery to obtain expressive wines, able to excite and surprise all types of palates.
