Gaja is one of Italy's most prestigious wineries. It was founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja but became the star of contemporary winemaking with Angelo Gaja, Giovanni's great-grandson, who first introduced innovative concepts and technological practices to the Langa. Today Angelo Gaja still owns the winery although much of the management is entrusted to his two daughters. In addition to the wineries in Piedmont, Gaja in recent years has also expanded into Tuscany, where he now owns several vineyards in the most vocated areas of Bolgheri and Montalcino.
