Faithful to tradition and respect for the territory

Cantine Ghidossi, The History

In the enchanting setting of Ticino, the home of Merlot, it all began with Gianfranco Ghidossi, an electrical engineer with a passion for vines and wine, a passion that was passed on to him by his father Silvio, who cultivated a small vineyard in front of the house. His father's first hobby productions, which vinified a few hundred kilos of Merlot grapes, led Gianfranco to want to improve that wine of which his father was so proud.

So it was that in 1992 the first Ghidossi cellar was built, which allowed Gianfranco to produce his wines in a real winery. His passion, tenacity and thoroughness led him to develop and improve his wines to the best of his ability, soon leading him soon to win the first gold medals in international competitions with the wine that bears his nickname, 'Saetta'.

Soon Gianfranco's passion also became that of his son Davide, who helped his father between the vineyard and the cellar from a young age. He thus decided to take the wine route, and to study Oenology and Viticulture at the EIC in Changins. After graduating and gaining work experience in Valais, Vaud, Geneva and Australia, he decided to take over his father's business.

In fact now Davide Ghidossi, for his profession as oenologist and winegrower, has been chosen as Rooky for the year 2020 by the Gault & Millau guide, and confirmed in 2021 and 2022 among the 150 best Swiss winegrowers, a recognition that indicates a new revelation in the wine industry.
